Regarding Mobile applications

Hi ,

I am planning to implement a mobile application and as a first step while setting up the infrastructure i have got stuck with some issues. They are as below :

1. If I install the MI does it also install the mobile engine or do i have to install it separately?

When I configure the MDK of my NWDS after installing the MI Client (AWT) and test the settings it gives and error message that

"ME Installation folder missing

Connection to MI could not be established

Invoking browser caused problems"

What is a solution to this? Also please explain what exactly is the difference between MI & Mobile Engine & Mobile Client?

2. What are the settings to be done on the MI so as to synchronize it with the server??

Hi Padma,

First and foremost you have to WAS configured to act as you mobile middleware.

1. If I install the MI does it also install the mobile engine or do i have to install it separately?

Yes. Your mobiel engine is part of your MI client installed on your workbench. And I would suggest you to go for a JSP client rather than a AWT client.

2. About the error message...

Here you need to give the path of the MI home folder

3. Settings??

Goto the help of NWDS and open MDK documentation in the help contents. Under introduction refer the topic 'using mi' for the settings info.

All the best for your venture in MI!!!

Regards,

Rahul

Hi Padma,

I am not sure abt the error message but i can give some insights on ME/MI and sync process.

ME is the earlier version of the mobile client and MI is the newer version of the same. Installing MI does not install ME but of course, ME is not needed when you have MI.

In order to synchronise with the server, you will have to login to the MI client and then go to the "Settings" page there. Once in there, you can give the details of the system where the MI middleware is installed (the system ID, the URL, the port etc). After you save these settings, the first subsequent sync will connect you to the middleware and fetch you the device ID.

Once you have the device ID, you can deploy applications onto the device and get the backend data by simply clicking on the "Sync" icon in the home page.

1. If I install the MI does it also install the mobile engine or do i have to install it separately?

U need to Install the Mobile Client in your desktop or PDA when you install Mobile Client it gets u the mobile Engine in there

with this u will be able to open MI from NWDS .

After Installing the Client u need to create new user

goto Settings and give the client no and other details

Then u synchronise the client u will get a device ID generated for ur client
