Hello - maybe you could share your education background; for example if you have a degree in Accounting then working in a finance module is a good transition.

Since you have some technical background, the transition to functional role won't be too difficult. However, as there are different (functional) roles, you may need to choose one (probably based on your educational background as tammy.powlas3suggested), develop yourself accordingly (open SAP courses are one way to do that), and accept the challenge to make a shift.

Here I could suggest some of my earlier contributions (at SCN) which may help you in devising your career strategy;

  1. A brief plan for developing as SAP Consultant (its old but still valid for some of the points),
  2. The Transitions within SAP Roles (the example here is different than your scenario but still may help),
  3. Being a Super Consultant (being the best in whatever specialization your choose is explained here),
  4. Working with SAP Partner or Customer (both environments have different challenges; here support role is explained),
  5. Taking advantage of open SAP Courses (here I've shared some tips on how to benefit from such offerings).

If you have any further queries, post them here for more suggestions. Good luck!
