Auditing Database connection gets lost after a period of time

Hi,

We have BO 4.2 SP03 server and auditing database is enabled. Auditing database is Sybase ASE 15.7. We are able to connect to Auditing database and see the tables and data inside. However after some period of time, BO loses connection to this database for some reason.

After that, we restart BO server, the connection comes back everything gets green and we can see the new records in Auditing DB, but as I said earlier after a period of time, it somehow loses connection to Sybase ASE auditing DB and we receive a message as in the screenshot

I have been trying to find a solution for this problem, but I couldn't find one. I keep getting the error below after some period of time.

I came accross a solution below. However, this didn't work either.

2044338 - Warning: "No connection to Auditing Data Store from CMS xxx_nn.CentralManagementServer" after pointing auditing database to Sybase ASE in BI4.x

The following steps need to be performed in the Sybase client to be able to connect to a Sybase server from BOE server:

1.Select Start > All Programs > Sybase > Dsedit Utility on Sybase server

2.On Select Directory Service with InterfacesDriver highlighted, click OK

3.Click Server Object > Add

4.Enter the server name or IP address and click OK

5.Click Server Address so it is highlighted

6.Right-click this area and select Modify Attribute

7.On Network Address Attribute, click Add

8.In Network Address, enter the server name/IP address followed by ',' and followed by port (e.g. 10.167.203.203,5000)

9.Click OK twice

10.Right-click Server Address and select Ping Server

11.Click Ping and if Connect succeeded message appears, this is set properly

12.Click Ok and Done and close the interface

13.Enter this connection to CMC > Auditing > Configuration > ADS Database > Connection Name

Is there anyone who can help or any idea what might be causing this issue?

Thanks.

Regards.

This is what I learned from this problem. Don't use Sybase as a database. The issue was with sybase for some reason the connection gets lost. There were also other issues with it like there is no MINUS operator in SQL syntax as a result the auditing reports were failing using this operator.

We switched to MS SQL instead. Last year had issues as well when we tried to use Sybase ASE as a repository database for Data Services, and we switched to MS SQL that time.

Have a nice one.

Seems strange and difficult to troubleshoot..

Could you please let us know the answers to below

1. What Database connector are you using to connect to Sybase database , I hope u using Sybase Open Client 15.7 as mentioned in PAM.

2. Do you also have CMS database on same Sybase server? Do you see any issues with it?

3. How long does the connection stays ,

4. Do you get any error related sybase connectivy on BO servers event viewer ?

Also check , under CMC----> Audting that "ADS Auto Reconnect " check box is checked.

Hi Rithesh,

1. We are using Sybase Open Client 15.7 connector.

2. CMS and Auditing DB are on the same Sysbase server and we are not having any problems with CMS at all.

3. The connection stays around 20 - 25 minutes which we haven't measured exactly.

4. We can connect to Auditing and CMS DBs on this sybase server from BO and IDT without any issues. We can create a universe and reports on top. In Auditing section of CMC, "ADS Auto Reconnect" is checked.

We just realized that we are having records in Auditing, but the error message in CMC still displays. I am just wondering if we are getting all the auditing records we are supposed get in the database because I can see some records in ...\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\Auditing logs which are not written in the database.

It is a very interesting problem. I wanted to know if anyone had this kind of problem before I open a message to SAP.

Thanks for your response.

Zahid,

I have customer using MS SQL 2014 with similar issues and support asked us to apply Patch 04 for BI 4.2 SP3. It's been almost a month since they applied the patch in DEV and system has been stable since. I would suggest apply Patch 04 for BI 4.2.3 in your DEV environment, it should resolve the issue. Also validate that you have the latest 64bit supported ODBC Open client installed for Sybase ASE v15.7

Ajay

So far I have seen, this BO 4.2 has so many bugs. I have seen others as well. I hope when I apply this Patch 04 to our system, we don't get some other errors because every time we apply a patch or SP, we get errors on some things.

Thanks for your help.

Have a nice one.
