Adding a New Page Before a SubReport

I have a subReport in the Report Footer section of my main report. I would like this subreport to appear on it's own page if and only if there is data in this subreport.

Currently I have the New Page Before checkbox checked in the Paging section of the Report Footer section. The result of this is I get the subreport to print on it's own page.

What I want to change is the suppressing of the blank page if there is no data to be displayed in the subreport.

Is there a way to write a formula that will check whether there are any records in the subreport from the main report ? I don't appear to have any access to the table being used in the subreport from the main report when I bring up the formula editor

Format Subreport to suppress blank subreport (see Subreport tab of format editor)

In section expert on main report, for section holding SR check suppress blank section.
