SAP Licensing Policy

SAP has introduced the new 5:1:2 licensing policy but does anyone knows how this works if your upgrade runs into the extended maintenance timeframe.

Example: 4.6C main stream support ends in Dec 2006. If we plan and implement our upgrade in Mid or early 2007 do we still have to pay the extended maintenance for 4.6C? If yes, do we have to pay for the entire calendar year of 2007 or is it pro-rated based on your last day on 4.6C.

Any information that you can share will be helpful.

The maintenance licensing is outlined on the SAP Service Marketplace (

For information on the extending your maintenance is outlined in the "Overview Maintenance Durations" section. For SAP R/3 4.6c it states:

    "SAP R/3 4.6C - Extended Maintenance from January 1, 2007 until the end of December 2009 (2007: additional fee + 2%, 2008/2009: additional fee + 4% per year)."

I would suggest that you talk to your SAP account executive about the options available to you.
