Author information does not display in File explorer.

When user tries to view Author details within the file explorer, the information does not populate. She can see it in file explorer only when Crystal reports is open. Last year she was able to view the attributes without having Crystal Reports open. Currently there is another user able to do so, I have matched all permissions, crystal reports settings, and folder options but she still cannot view the attributes.

Hi Yolanda,

Interesting.... Seems like it's possibly a permission issue in Explorer. If you log into your PC as a Local PC Administrator do you see them?

What OS are you using?

Try enabling the Search Service, from the start menu type in Services, right click on it and select Run As Administrator.

Look for Windows Search and if it's not enabled then enable it. Another way is try searching for a file in Explorer, if Search service is not enabled it will ask you if you want to enable it.

This will not have anything to do with CR, those properties are a function of the File Disk system, CR's Summary info is simply reading them from the file system, and writing them to it if updates are entered.

I'm able to open the Crystal Report when I double-click on it whether the Author displays or not on any workstation. If I open Crystal Reports first then go to open a file on a network or local drive, I can see the author displayed for all the files but if I go to the network or local drive first, the author does NOT display for any of the files.

Yup, the File | Open dialog lists the Authors property but Windows Explorer can't see it. Looking at the properties of the file itself, the Details tab doesn't show any of the document properties at all.

So it looks like the properties in the Report Options aren't being set to the proper properties for Windows Explorer to use.

Hi Alan,

Interesting, could be file asssociations are messed up. What happens if that user double clicks on a RPT file? What happens on the other users PC where it does work?

Can you attach a screen shot of where they are seeing the info?
