ECC 5.0 & NW2004S BI - are these compatible?

A month ago we completed our R/3 4.6C to ECC 5.0 upgrade and now are moving on to additional module deployment - specifically BI (eg BW)

Can someone direct me to a matrix which might show whether we can run ECC 5.0 with the NW2004s?

Regards

Doreen

Hi,

Yes. It's very much possible to deploy all the NW2004s components to "talk to" our NW2004 ECC 5.0 R/3 system. Since SAP has got downwad compatibility, you can do it.

Hi Doreen,

I don't know of such a matrix - even when it will exist somewhere in SMP ...

If you want to install NW2004s this means you will run BW 7.0 which is OK, if you do have consultants, that can cope with that. Otherwise you could install BW 3.5 which is NW2004 based.

From the SAP site, it will be supported down to 3.x (whatever I think 3.0D) - but that should be of no interest.

=> Yes, you can (and should) install NW2004s ...

Just want to be sure I'm asking this question clearly....

In a single landscape environment we can -

Run ECC 5.0 on WebAS 6.40 and then -

Deploy for our BW environment -

NW2004S BI on WebAS 7.0 and these two will be happy together?

vs. deploying BW 3.5?

Hi Doreen,

Just thought of a similar question (or totally another one) and noticed that this topic is still marked as a question, even though Volker has given a clear answer.

When you said "a single landscape environment", were you considering deploying BI into ERP on one single SAP system, because they are both based on same SAP_BASIS, SAP_ABA, SAP_BW, and PI_BASIS components?

Thank you,

Victor

Hi Victor,

I'm pretty sure, Doreen will NOT go for a single system!

This approach is just for smaller companies, that cannot cope with so many systems - but you lose flexibility, run into performance issues and cannot individually upgrade one componente (e.g. BW which will be upgraded more often typically)

No - not a single system

Just was trying to clarify that we can deploy all the NW2004s components to "talk to" our NW2004 ECC 5.0 R/3 system.

We will soon be installing BW/CRM/EP/XI etc. and was just trying to clarify that I could install the NW2004s versions of those apps/components and that they would work with our ECC 5.0 NW2004 core R/3.

Just was having a hard time phrasing the question and as always, don't want to ever assume something will work with SAP unless I read it in black and white print.
