4.6C on V5R4

Hi All,

We are considering an upgrade from V5R2 to V5R4. Has anyone done an OS upgrade to V5R4 on a server running R/3 4.6C? Did you have any issues with V5R4 and 4.6C? Is 4.6C supported on V5R4? PAM indicates that 4.6C is not supported beyond V5R2.

We are also considering a +/- 1 release upgrade on the production system with 4 LPARs. We would upgrade the controlling partition to V5R3, the other 3 to V5R4, and then hit the controlling partition again to get it to V5R4 all over several weekends. Has anyone done anything similar? How did it work out? Any issues to watch out for?

TIA,

Stan

Hi All,

Ignore the part of my previous question regarding 4.6C being supported on V5R4. PAM does indicate that it is supported on the EXT kernel. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Stan,

yes, as you saw, V5R4 is supported down to 3.1I with one of the latest kernel patches for the EXT kernels.

I never did this with the LPAR logic, but would suggest to ask IBM for directly upgrading tht controlling LPAR to V5R4 as this reduces one upgrade. Or do you still have V5R2 in your other ones ???

If this should be the case: Yes, that is the solution what you were planning.

Hi Stan,

You might want to check these out.

I suggest you upgrade your SAP Kernel first.

SAP OSS Note 853564

Also there are couple of required ptf groups.
