Hi,

Does anybody have an idea, how to reduce my own points. I want to take away the referal points, how can I do that?.

Thanks,

Raj.

You can ask one of the moderators to do this for you. Email to sdn@sap.com.

I'm curious though, why?

Do you think that you are not deserving for the points that have been awarded to you for referring a newcommer to SDN?

Hi Rich,

Its pride to talk to you. I think only 5 or 10 points is enough. I didnt know that we get points when we refer, since some controversy is going on the referal ponits, which I got 80 points, so I want to reduce 40 points.

since some people are abusing it, I dont want to carry that bad impression.

Thanks & Regards,

Raj.

Raj, It is clear that you are not abusing it. You have referred 4 people, and are clearly not trying to pull something tricky. Earlier this month, it was recognized that one had referred 360 people in a matter of minutes. This was of course taken care of by the SDN moderators. I am confident about speaking for MOST of the contributors, when I say, there is no bad impression about receiving points when referring new SDNers, as long as they are legit. As long as the sun sets and rises, there will always be critics. You are doing your part as an SDN contributor, don't let the critics bring you down.

Oh..!! thats an amazing scam...bigger than Enron....anyways thanks for your response. I am wondering how you can spend this much of time on SDN without expecting anything...thats really great...I would like to request you to make either a blog/article on SDN explaining your job, daily life, and more info about you...this can be an inspiration for people like me.

Thanks,

Raj.

I do spend a lot of time on SDN, juggling work, SDN, family, and sleep can be a challenge. I just really enjoy chatting with others about SAP, whether it be ABAP, Webdynpro, or trying to make an SDNer feel better about receiving points for referrals. I guess it is really just a hobby. A hobby that keeps me on my toes, learning everyday, about SAP, and about people in general. This really is a great communitity.

As far as a blog/article on me is concerned, I would say that it is unlikely. I really couldn't promote myself in that fashion. That's really not the way it is done on SDN. Plus, I probably don't have a lot to write about. I mean, you can only talk about yourself so much, right? As a Community Reporter, I interviewed a fellow SDNer and it was posted in the community corner a while back. Maybe I'll be on the other side sometime in the future. But if you have any questions for me, you can always fire an email to me directly. You can get my email address from my business card.

Very nice chatting with you. And remember, don't feel bad about those points. You seem to be a responsible contributor and there is nothing wrong with being rewarded for your efforts(however little the effort is).

Best Regards,

Hi Raj,

This is very honorable from you to want to give back points that you have rightly earned.

> Oh..!! that's an amazing scam...bigger than Enron....

Let's see with Enron tons of people have lost their job and even worse their retirements. Billions evaporated from one day to the next. I am still paying for it with high energy costs in California.

I don't think that a couple of extra points on SDN are in the same scam category.

By the way all referral points are posted within minutes of each other because that process is one from the 70s batch input

Rich and you both do excellent work here and it is contributors like you that make the SDN community what it is and we are very grateful for that.

Have a good weekend, Mark.

Hi Raj:

Rich is one of my SDN Inspirators too -:D He knows more on ABAP that I will probably know in a long time...He's hell of a nice guy, I just have send a few mails to him, and he's always on the mod to answer and show that he loves what he does.

Maybe 80 points for a referal is too much, but don't worry...With this post, we all know that you're not a "Points Hunter" -;)

Greetings,

Blag.

Hi Raj,

Thats nice of you to raise this issue in a post. If your referrals are genuine then you do deserve the points mate. In fact I have some referral points from the trainees whom I had asked them to register in SDN and I am proude to say that few of them have more than 1000 points now. So if your referrals contribute to the cause of SDN then you richly deserve those points. So there is nothing to be ashamed of the referral points provided they are used in the right spirit.

Hi,

What about giving out points for users that are often listed as favourite user by SDN members... ?

It would make more sense to me than referral points (even if it comes with the same problem of "cheating" flaw) !

Hoping that people won't get too proud having hundreds of "admirers"... ;-D
