Hello BW'ers,
I have a conceptual question about the RDA functionality in NW2004s regarding moving data into other downstream objects.
In our situation we have developed an EDW layer of datastores, that most often transfer data to integration layer datastores, that then transfer data to cubes. Using RDA I don't see any functionality to start a process chain or raise an event so that the data can be transferred all downstream infoproviders. So my question is how do we do this? Or is this limited in functionality at this point to going straight into an infocube?
At this point I haven't been able to get the RDA to transfer any records from R3 yet, but that I will submit an OSS note for.
I see that you can add a DTP to the deamon in RSRDA, and it actually lets you add more than one DTP at that point, but not sure this helps our situation. I also do not know the order it will execute these multiple DTPs withing the deamon processing.
Thanks much,
Kevin
I guess that one could turn the datastores "activate immediately" flag on to accomplish what I am wanting, given that multiple DTPs can be attached to a Deamon and the processing has some kind of ordering to it.

As a general question, I do not see why the RDA is a new feature. You can always schedule a process chain (or data load) every 5 or 10 minutes.
I was more expecting the RDA to work as SAP & CRM - realtime calls via RFC
Any thought? Am I totally wrong? What am I missing?
Thanks
Ioan

Hi Kevin,
I think you are missing some information to start off.
The key information is that Real Time Data Acquisition (RDA) is based on a daemon process that continuously runs and initiates in regular intervals (up to once per minute) the extraction process via an InfoPackage. It write the extracted information to an open request in the PSA, which can be closed after a certain time or on reaching a threshold value for number of records (this is a setting in the InfoPackage, which are a special type of InfoPackage). The data can also be posted to the PSA via a Web Service.
The data can be forwarded automatically by the daeon (if a Data Transfer Process exists) to a Data Store Object, and is hence available for direct reporting.
You are correct when mentioning that you can do the same with standard extraction means, yet you would generate a huge amount of status information (requests, etc.) and the data would not be available for reporting directly.
Cheers

Andreas,
Thanks for you reply. Yes, I am aware of the way the deamon works and now trying to use it presents a question. Again, in our situation we have three levels: 1 datastore layer for aquisition layer (data untouched from source system & not much used for reporting), 2 a datastore layer in integration layer (which is used for reporting), and 3 a cube/multiprovider layer for normal summarized reporting.
I am having trouble with getting the RDA to actually get delta records from R3 and I am trying to make a judgment as to whether I continue to pursue this RDA at this time or not, as there are other things in the project that need my attention. But I will go to OSS for the actual errors.
My question here is if I add multiple DTPs (we would need at least 3 DTPs) to this deamon in RSRDA, will all the DTPs get executed? If they will all be executed, in what order will they be executed?
Best Regards,
Kevin
Hello Andreas,
Can you please assist me in establishing a proof of concept for the Real time data acquistion feature to be implemented initially, as we just recently have upgraded to the NW2004s version and in order to get the approval for the migration project we need to get the POC ready.
I have currently tried creating an example for Special Ledger summary or FI_AP_4 datasource. Also, am trying to create the web services source system and datasource.
So, please let me know. Your help will be really appreciated.
Thanks
Dharma.
