Hi Jimmy,

in the BW area, MDM makes much sense as the single master data supplier. This way, you can cleanse your BW master data, while still being able to correctly identify the master data object in BW when uploading transactional data from various systems (MDM Master Data retains information of various keys in source systems).

MDM makes most sense in combination with other (SAP) products, like BW, so a knowledge of both systems is an advantage.

As for getting started: there are learning maps for consultants. Also, the WebEx Sessions are a good place to start.

For the Content repositories, there are scenarios that include BW-integration. One scenario is about extracting from R/3, transferring via XI into MDM, cleansing and transferring (XI) into BI. There is content to be installed in each system to make this work, but it gives you a good overview of the process.

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Jimmy,

Being the BW consultant, you are aware of the transactional data in a system. Which is in turn is used for reporting. Master Data is non transactional data as explained by Tanveer includes Materials, Vendors, Customers and so on. If this data has got inconsistency, duplication, though I have got good analytical system, reporting is going to be wrong. MDM is an application to work on these master data problems for cleansing, harmonizing master data also allowing for central master data management and many more. It can be used for SAP as well a NON SAP source systems. So making career in MDM can be a very good option provided you have got good understanding of business master data.

You have created this topic as question. If it is answered kindly change the status to "Problem Solved".

Thanks and Regards,

Hey Jimmy,

MDM is part of SAP Netweaver. MDM is a new technology and is picking up in the market. Many companies are realising thier master data problem and using MDM as a solution to it.

So the carrier in MDM is always a good option.

In order to learn the MDM, you shall require the following knowledge

1. Knowledge of Master Data like Material,Vendor, Customer, Product etc.

2.Most importantly, you need to have good DBMS understanding.

3.Prior SAP knowledge in atleast one master data.

4. Basic XML knowledge.

5. Understanding of SAP XI, EP would b addtional benefit..

Regards,

Tanveer.

Well, MDM is very up coming technologies in SAP NetWeaver and being a BW consultant very useful. (For example: Global Spend Analysis)

Coming to technology, I think you well enough to understand MDM being BW Consultant.

Technical (any DB knowledge) 75%

Functional MM , SD (minimal), etc.25%
