Secured connection

Hi,

What does it meen to implement a secured communication (SSL) ?

What steps have to be done ?

I need to use an e-mail adapters (S-SMTP, S-IMAP4, S-POP3).

Are there any configuration steps what have to be done in Integration Repository or Integration Directory or all neccesary steps are performed on basis level ?
