Report Designer - Query with variable

Former Member

Hi!

When testing the report designer, we have found an issue - it’s not possible to embedding queries with variables.

We have found note https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=012006153200000232982006

that suggest a solution to the issue.

My question is simply, does anyone know if this is a temporary fix, or is this a constraint that is not planned to be fixed by SAP? The note is a bit ambiguous.

Hi,

I don't know details about the variable feature you mentioned but my investigation on Report Designer showed also several other "bugs" - meaning features described partly in SAP Help but not (yet) available) and more missing features like e.g.

- merging of cells not possible

- page setup in pixel, ruler in cm

- no information about position / coordinates of single cells

- no undo function

- no rotation of cell content

- no drag and drop for more than one cell

- no formatting of frame style (double line, colour, bold)

- no zoom function

My impression is that the Report Designer is a kind of beta version. For formatted reporting Excel is still more powerful and I recommended my customer not to use Report Designer under the current circumstances.

Queries with variables within Report Designer is being planned for SPS8 as based on the releases in service marketplace:

When in the report designer and I try to add an data provider (query), I get the message

"Query contains variable(s)

Use a query view(variables are filled)"

Go to "Help -> About" in the Query Designer. What patch level, support package, and revision number comes up?

Patch level is 8 Hotfix is 1 and revision is 327 so I guess this means 801.

I would upgrade that to Frontend patch 802.

I just installed FEP802 and still have the same error. Anymore ideas?

And you applied OSS Note: 961995 which I mentioned in the BLOG above?

I put it in with SNOTE.

Out of ideas on this one. Log a message so support can take a look at this on your system.

Hello,

Queries with variables are still in restrictions for Report Designer.

You can use this work-arond creating Query View and fill up the variables. This allows you to define a Report in RD. Then, use Web Appication Designer to include your Report into Web Application and replace the Query View with your initial Query.

For the integration do following:

1. Create new Web Template in WAD

2. Drag-and-drop Web Item "Report"

3. Go to Property Window in WAD and search for "REPORT" (description Report Design) parameter in Web Items Parameters

4. Use the button on the right side of the parameter to open Report Designer and choose your Report in it.

5. You should see that new Data Provider was created in WAD -> Open it and set it to your initial Query.

5. Save you Web Template and execute in the browser.

Hi Karol,

when will the 'normal-query-with-variable-in-report-designer' functionality be implemented.

I thought it was SP08 or SP09?

Best Regards
