calculations in design studio.

I took data from universe to design studio and took measures and dimensions in query panel. so is there any possibility to make calculations in design studio on the variables.

Tammy has confirmed dynamic calculations at run-time for crosstabs associated with a universe data source. There's an Add Dynamic Calculation option in the data source initial view editor, although I think this is only available for BW and HANA data sources but you can check. Apart from this, there is no option for creating free-form calculated fields in the data source if that is what you are asking for.

Perhaps if you could provide a screenshot of your data source initial view and more details about the calculations your require, we could make suggestions accordingly.

Hi Uman,

This option is not available when using universes as the backend. This is something that I personally find very frustrating, but we'll have to deal with for now (I'm very much hoping that this wil be added in Lumira 2.0 Designer, especially given the fact that the Lumira velocity engine will be available).

Perhaps it is possible to do the calculation at the universe level. What kind of calculation would you like to do?

Actually, After discussing with you we upgraded Design Studio to 1.6.4.1 and BI4.2 SP3 version. In this version we are getting Add Calculation option. But in Initial View Editor of eFashion data source DS_1 after selecting two measures and right click --> select Divide, we are getting one Add Calculation dialog box after clicking Ok, the dialog box disappears and no data is displayed in design mode. So please help me. Is there any possibility of creating new measure in design studio.

Hi Uman,

As per my original response, there was some uncertainty as to the extent of support for dynamic calculations for Universe data sources. As you have now confirmed with your screenshot and upon further research, based on the following SCN discussion, it appears the Add Dynamic Calculation option is NOT AVAILABLE FOR UNIVERSE data sources at design-time: Add Dynamic Calculation with UNX

Also, the functionality in the blog link I referenced for Calculated Measures in Charts/Crosstab is based on HANA and BW data sources only.

However, as per Tammy's example, the Add Dynamic Calculation option is available at run-time for a Crosstab linked to a Universe data source.

By the way, in addition to the Add Dynamic Calculation option for the Initial View, did you try simultaneously selecting two measures and right-click to see if the Add Calculation option is available to you?

If you can provide more specific details about the calculation scenario you are trying to implement, we can make further suggestions accordingly.
