Dear Experts,
Is there a way to archive material groups without deleting them from the system? Our primary requirement was to hide the very big list of material groups which aren’t to be used from the F4- using OBSOLETECUST, but this needed a lot of components to be present in the system. Is there a way to archive material groups?
Thank you in advance.

Hello iamgayathri
iamgayathriI guess you have three options:
If I were you, I would delete the not needed material groups from the configuration.

Hi Dominik,
Thank you for your response.
1) We can only delete if it is not used in the system at all, which includes Old/completed transaction data (where you cannot update the Material Group codes anymore). We need to wait till all of that is archived before we can consider deleting it. --> isn't this true?
2) The descriptions are already changed to "Do not use" - but the list is too long and inconvenient for users to browse until the end of the list.
3) I will try this.
No need to archive material groups as transaction data will/should be there for your business- better go for development(with BADI) so that old material group code should not show in search option and allow to show only new material group codes during creation of purchasing document/other document!

Hi Bijay,
Thank you for your response.
Is it true that we can only delete the material groups if they're not used in the system at all, which includes Old/completed transaction data (where you cannot update the Material Group codes anymore) & that we need to wait till all of that is archived before we can consider deleting it?
Or can we delete material groups even with un-archived documents?

Material groups are created for specific purpose/process but if at all not used better follow above suggested option which is beneficial to all as no harm to any business process!
If you want to delete again you need approval from business and cross check historical documents, and then follow up for archiving process.
Options are there to choose and you need best option for your business!
