Absence quota management for carry over process

As a previous SAP HCM functional analyst I am trying to understand how to manage carry over annual leave from year A to year A+1 in Employee Central. In HCM we used the quota validity dates to avoid having to change the quota number. Is this done differently in SF EC? If so, how?
