SAP DWC (Data warehouse cloud)

We are in a new implementation of the SAP s/4HANA private cloud as part of a rise package and we are thinking to have a data warehouse and DWC was brought into the conversation. We are thinking to include PowerBI in the system. Any ideas?

Hello,

DWC can work with S/4HANA Cloud in several ways

  • Import data from S4 (like CDS), in some cases it could be replicated in real time.
  • Push down queries to S4 as remote sources (data is not imported to DWC, it just goes from S4 to SAC through DWC when view is used)

After developing the views for analytics, they could be exposed and then SAC can access them, integrating data but also semantic usage (like units, currencies, hierarchies, codes and descriptions, etc).

To consume the views with external tools, you can access them as tables (without semantics) using the SQL interface (ODBC, JDBC).

Best regards,

Hi whydoineedaname,

Are you asking for architectural advice? That depends on a lot of factors. I assume you want to use PowerBI for analytics? If you are implementing S/4HANA and are thinking about DWC, SAP Analytics Cloud seems more logical. But again, there is much more context needed here.

Kind regards,

We will be using SAC and PowerBI for analytics.
