Mapping data to subprocesses in process intelligence

nicholasjsmith

When I have an existing BPMN model saved with a collapsed subprocess, I am unable to map any activities to the subprocess from the log data uploaded in Process Intelligence. Is it possible to map activities to collapsed subprocesses or can I only map activities to regular tasks?

Hello Nicholas,

currently, it is not possible to run a mapping/conformance check between one event log (process intelligence) with multiple process models and/or subprocesses (process manager).

The workaround described by Martin is currently a good suggestion. This means that e.g. a copy of your current process model would need to be made E2E in one process model for process intelligence specifically.

In the majority of situations we were approached so far, users do not have a large number of event logs that need to be mapped against multiple process models. Yet we are aware that the current approach can lead to boundaries in some scenarios and additional flexibility would be valuable. We are exploring this to cope with those scenarios as well as part of our product planning.

Hello Manuel,

if you want to use the transformation templates https://documentation.signavio.com/suite/de/Content/process-intelligence.htm

This image reflects all events of Procure-to-Pay which are provided in the SQL codings of all documents ("painted" by myself, might be not 100% right... at least, I got all covered).

How would you decide upfront which to use and which to neglect? Try & error?

Hi Martin,

thank you for sharing. I have forwarded the information to our accelerators engineering team.

To your point on the decision of which ones to use and which ones to neglect. Usually, change events are not preferable events in a to be process model (exceptions exist). Apart from that, blocks and deletions also are non-desired activities.

Another great way is the SAP Signavio Process Explorer with SAP best practice process models. We are aware of the fact that those models are not one E2E model on the same level like the process intelligence events (yet). But they can be a great source for identified the proposed process by SAP.

Best regards and happy mining with SAP Signavio

Hello Nicholas,

I found out the same already last year (Oct/Nov)... and for me it seems Signavio itself is not consitent here 😞

On the one hand you should group sub-process into a specific sub-process in your BPMN diagram, but on the other hand you cannot use the same in Process Intelligence.

I myself found no other way than to create two diagrams... and the one, used in PI, looks quite messy 😞

If you are not sure if your data for e.g. the OTC process contains all events, which you can gather via the transformation template, then you need to put all of them into your diagram.

I guess this is just one more example in the long list of unfinished cloud software.... and in a year or so, it will work.
