How to Unfreeze First date field at line item in a sales order?

Hello Experts,

Greetings!!

The business user wants to use first date as the delivery date. Whenever the delivery of a line item is completed the first date field gets freeze(the overall status column shows as completed then it appears to be frozen).

Please suggest what is the best way to achieve the same.

Some of the solution are as below that our team has proposed.

1. Changing the date in schedule line category works but seems to be tedious and also many times delivery creation fails.

2. Using any screen variant to unfreeze the first date. Changing the first date will smoothly create the delivery (it is a configurable material)

3.Adding a custom field where delivery dates can be filled and line item could be delivered.

Please let me know your opinion on the same and also what are the configurations or code changes that could be required.
