Roles needed to develop on S/4Hana Public Cloud

Hi all,

just a quick question: I'd like to test a few things using eclipse on S/4Hana Public Cloud. Problem when I connect is that I do not have sufficient rights to develop (The user does not have the necessary development authorization).

Any idea which business roles I need to do this? Found a few candidates but no results.

Hope you can help!

All the best

Laurens

Hi Laurens,

are you referring to development in ADT in starter/development tenant of S/4HANA Cloud?

Then your user needs to be assigned to business role created from template SAP_BR_DEVELOPER.

Please refer to Getting Started as a Developer in the ABAP Environment.

Best regards,
Peter

Thanks! One step further, it is complaining about "No authorization to access the resource /sap/bc/adt/core/http/reentranceticket" but I'll dive into that one!

Thanks!

@ peterpersiel Ok, I just discovered something. Could it be that the role of the tenant, doesn't let us develop on it? No matter which role I add. I just can't login using eclipse.

Hi Laurens,

100 client is usually the customizing tenant and not for cloud development part in ADT.

ABAP Cloud development is done in 080 client of either your starter system (=Starter Development Tenant) or development system (=Development Tenant).

Best regards,
Peter

Hello Tayane,

Thank you for your help. SAP documentation is not fully clear on that topic but we have been able to address the problem. for those who would have the same subject to deal with:

  • in CBC, you need to do the initial steps to configure the customizing tenant (milestones, deployment targets, organizational structure). You will then be able to activate users in the target customizing tenant with the right functional roles.
  • in CBC, you also need to do the initial steps for a second time to configure the development tenant (milestones, deployment targets, organizational structure). Even if, organizational structures don't have anything to do with specific dev, it's a necessary step to initialize the development tenant. this is what we didn't understand. After that, you can create users in the DEV tenant with the right roles SAP_BR_DEVELOPER.

Best Regards.
Vincent.

Hi Sirs,

In the same vein, we have a DEV tenant but we don't know how to use it. We are in a SAP S/4HANA Cloud 3-System Landscape Solution. CBC is well activated : Project Type "Evaluation", Status "Active", Phase "Product Specific Config". The deployment target is our customizing tenant. Our business users can logon on the customizing tenant with a SSO setup in our IAS. everything looks good.

But, on our dev tenant, we just have the ability to log on with the initial user (the one who received the activation mail). There are just 3 templates to create Z_roles (BR_ADMINITRSTATOR, BR_MANAGER, BR_BPC_EXPERT). SAP_BR_DEV does'nt exist. And the tile "manage workforce" is not accessible in this tenant (thus... impossible to create new developer users).

the url links in the note 3259196 does'nt seem to give a solution.

Any idea to go further ?

Best Regards.

Dear Vincent,

Usually when the customers have only the three roles templates is because they haven't finished the Initial Steps in the CBC. However, as you said, you have completed it. I would recommend you to raise an incident for SAP Product Support so we can further assist you..

Best regards,

Tayane.

Well, I need to get back to this. Although the roles are assigned as described in note "3259196 - No authorization to access the resource /sap/bc/adt/core/http/reentranceticket | ABAP Development Tools", we still get the same error message.

Business roles based on template SAP_BR_DEVELOPER are created, but still not possible to login.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Hi Laurens,

Which system are you using? You need to have a 3-System Landscape and use the Development Tenant (client 080) of your Development System.

If you're using a 2-SL you'll not be able to use ABAP development tools. The same applies if you're trying to use any other tenant than the development one.

Regards,

Tayane.
