What is the technical impact of upgrading an existing customer from Sybase SQL Anywhere version 12 to version 17 in the same server environment as the Advanced Edition?

What do you mean with "technical impact" here? And what does "in the same server environment as the Advanced Edition" mean?
When upgrading, it's generally recommended to check the "Changed behaviour" sections of all the new versions (and those in-between), say via DCX:
What's New in v16
What's New in v17
(For v12, you may have to relate to the v12.0.1 What's New, too, in case the customer is still on v12.0.0.)
But I'm not sure those upgrade information are what you are asking for?
