During the regular maintenance of HANA DB , do we need to disable the hana replication

we have 2 node based hana replication enabled for our HANA DB. I would like to know if we need to un-register the secondary node during the maintenance or we can simply shutdown both the systems and then turn them back on once maintenance is done. what would be best approach here ? could you even provide some supporting document for this.
