Trasfer of IMG activity to current setting recommended use cases

In IS Oil, there is an established process of mapping the supply location to customers for route creation and assessing the rate per KM to be paid to the transporter in case of transport charges are borne by the company. One of the recommendations given by an SAP SME is that in order to shorten the time, recommending set of IMG activities to be converted to current settings so that these objects can be maintained directly on production without going thru' the change management / CHARM process.

Moreover, SAP SME went to the extent of extending Debug Access in production systems as exception to business / functional users.

Queries are:

1. Does this by-pass of change management process to a current setting recommended for all such cases? As per our understanding few exceptional cases like maintenance of currency conversion in production this setting is recommended as per the note. Other cases like the one which is explained above - route maintenance, where the business has sufficient time for advising the SAP support team for such configurations. Still is it a recommended practices?

2. Does it not violate the basic IT controls of change management process? associated history / auditrails etc.

3. As regards to extending debug access to business / functional teams, is it recommended as per GRC best practices of SAP?

4. As per IT General Controls, even the developers should not have direct access to production systems. IN light of this, is it recommended to extended a debug access in production first to developer themselves? then to business / functional users?

Any comments from experts on this please.

Hello Saravanan T,

The changes should be moved through transport process with UAT in quality system if you done these changes directly in production system it violates the all change management control and audit compliance.

For debug a case, it would be better to make a copy of your production system or refresh your quality system to debugging analysis thoroughly. In case if you debugging in production system your business transition might be hampered.

In production system, you can only maintain master data, condition records etc.

Above are the suggestions and recommendations but finally it's business call what they decided.
