Counts differ between Story and Datasource table

Hi Community,

I have created a story in SAC which contains numeric point charts displaying counts of dimensions. Found that the counts differ from the same counts that I obtain on querying the DB table. For instance, If I get a count of 23000 of distinct values of a dimension say 'Contract' on querying the table in datasource, then the value displayed in the numeric point chart using the 'Aggregation' (Count dimensions) option of the calculated measure feature, I am getting a different figure. Please help.

Hi Madhu,

Screen shots of the aggregation would help also this could possibly due to

  1. Some of the data is not loaded into the model ( applicable to import data )
  2. Keys defined in the ODATA could be different to the measure.

We would need more information, unfortunately

Good Luck

Afshin,

After each refresh (reimport) of data to the data model, the correct number of rows is reflected in the data management tab of the data model. After the previous refresh of the data model, we could correct the counts by replacing null values in couple of measure columns with 0 using calculated columns at the model level but after the latest refresh again the counts in the story were off with a small difference from the correct counts as checked by querying the datasource (Netezza).

Would like to mention that some columns in the data source that are being included in the model have lot of nulls and blanks, esp the measures. Does this impact the accuracy of counts at the story level? Please suggest.

I'd also do some basic troubleshooting so you are comparing apples to apples:

a) remove any widget filters

b) remove any story filters or selectors.

If you can't do this (eg don't want to impact a finished story), just create a new story.

Second thing to look at this- did you create this at the data model level or at the story level?

Steve,

There are no filters at the widget/story level. The counts have been calculated at the story level.

The latest finding I had is that when I load the data excluding the measures from the data source to the data model, I am getting the correct counts in the story (counts calculated using the 'Aggregation' option of the Calculated Measure feature). When I include the measures in the load and create a new model, I am getting wrong counts at the story level. The measures are making the difference and I have no explaination for this.
