Name & Label are same in HANA Calculation View

Hi Friends,

I created a HANA calculation view and in the semantics layer, the Name (technical id) and Label (description) is same.

How can I have Label display the description instead of technical id.

Thanks,screenshot.jpg

Dear Rahul,

You have an option to change the column output label in the SEMANTICS section of your View. See below image

The Column Name is the column name you specified in the Query or Projection.

The Label is the output name as you required.

Hi vsb1 ,

You need to edit the values in label tab from semantics, click on each label value & change the desciption to what you want. By default it is the technical ID.

Hi Abhishek, thanks for your reply.

I am not sure if the label value is technical id by default. I have other views in which the label value is the description of the name column i.e technical id.

I have aprox 70 fields. Changing name will be too much of manual work.

Hi vsb1,

If you see the descriptions in label in some views, then it is because the base tables used in those views are created in HANA DB with the column 'Comment' filled. Usually the tables we work with in BW systems (I assumed because you mentioned the tag BW Modelling tool), don't have the comment field filled in table structure (see below screenshot). So, by default the Label contains the technical names of the table columns. You can check that from your table definition in HANA yourself. Just open the base table definition & check the column 'Comment'. If that is blank, unfortunately you can't get the descriptions in label of your calculaiton view semantics, you need to maintain them manually (you can consider modifying the table definition in HANA by adding the descriptions in the 'Comment' column, these will in turn be inherited by the consumer calculation views, but this is not a recommended practice).

Please consider accepting the answer if this has addressed your original question.

Abhi
