Implication of resetting a total counter reading linked to engine hours

Hi, I have to reset the total counter reading of the Main Engine hours of a vessel as an incorrect reading was created last year. This forced to counter to overflow and of course the maintenance plans link are all out of sync. I have to replace the total counter reading with the correct counter without affecting the maintenance plans. Please advise.
