Repetative Vs Discrete - Assessment questions to business

I know the difference between repetitive and discrete manufacturing technically. However, when the customer has complex BOM, some assemblies could be repetitive and some could be discrete. What are the top questions we should ask and get answers to at each assembly and FG level to come out with a proposal for REM and Discrete settings at each material number of BOM .

My approach would be this way

Get all assemblies from the BOM and go and visit the shop floor and see in your eyes what is being done. 2 possibilities are possible.

Assembly goes through a series of work centers, each work center does an activity, does time confirmation, and passes it on to the next work center. He consumes some components individually, then it is discrete.

If the assembly steps are done in the line without entering anything in the system and at the end of the line they just confirm the quantity, it is repetitive manufacturing for that assembly.

There are many blog posts. refer them for detailed analysis
