CAD Variant Material and DIR Material in ECTR

Hi All,

I uploaded an assembly with multiple Variants. While generating Material numbers, I selected the Default variant only and ignored others. Then, from the Default variant of the header, I generated the BoM. Now I see that these materials are not showing up in the Object link of the DIR.

For some reason, I had to change the Material number and from one child part DIR, I selected Assign Material and added the new Material number. Now, this material is activated as the Object link, but not the other one.

My question is: What is the difference between Material assigned at the DIR level and Material assigned at the Variant level? Why are the materials assigned at Variant level not activated as Object links? Can someone clarify this please?
