SAP Crystal Reports 2020 compatibility with VMware Horizon

Hi, can we use SAP Crystal Reports 2020 with VMware Horizon as a published app?

This report (SAP Crystal Reports 2020 Supported Platforms (PAM)) does not show VMware Horizon as a supported virtualization platform.

We are also looking for an official answer. But per our own experience it appears it is not fully supported. We are running Horizon 2111.1 and we are unable to print from Crystal Reports when using the VMware Universal Print driver.

Don Williams suggested contacting VMware Support. We've also gone that route. They do not know if CR is supported but suggested contacting SAP for further information and support.

Hopefully someone from SAP can comment further on this.

Hello Nick,

While we're happy that you've come to SAP Community to get an answer to your question, you posted your question as an answer in an old thread.

I've converted your answer to a comment, but even so -- posting in older threads is not the best way to get guidance.

If you're looking for help, you should ask a new question: https://answers.sap.com/questions/ask.html.

Hi Nick,

What are the actual issues or errors when selecting their Printer?

"We are also looking for an official answer. But per our own experience it appears it is not fully supported. We are running Horizon 2111.1 and we are unable to print from Crystal Reports when using the VMware Universal Print driver."

The problem is it's the VM Universal Print Driver may not be complete, or missing something.

The Developers at VM Ware can download a trial version and test it:

https://www.sap.com/products/technology-platform/crystal-reports.html#try-now

I'm retired now after 26 years working for SAP (Crystal Reports) but the standard response is if it's not listed in the PAM it's not supported, means R&D never had a chance to test it so it's not in the QA Scripts to test.

So officially it's not supported, unofficially it usually does work but....

To add your Enhancement request go here:

https://www.sap.com/about/customer-involvement/influence-adopt.html

CR uses the Windows DEVMODEX structure to access the printer info.

I would try running VM under a local Admin account and then in the Image try running CR Designer by right clicking on the Icon and selecting Run as Administrator also.

This should give both VM and CR full permissions.

If that doesn't work then there are issues with the VM print driver and nothing CR can do to fix it.

CR has had a lengthy history of not working with Print Drivers that don't follow the rules, HP drivers often didn't work, their memory manager reported the structure was zero bytes so standard C++ API's caused memory issues.

VM's are typically full OS's, so as long as you install CR 2020 using an Admin account it should work.

Have you ask VMWare if they can support CR 2020? It's usually an issue with VM when CR does work.

What errors are you getting?
