Performance in opening reports when working via synchronous server

It is possible to use the option that reports are opened via the synchronous WWI Server instead of using the local frontend which reduces administration because you're working independently form the local installation (Changing user parameter

ESWWI_INST from EXISTFRONT to WWISERVER). It could take up to ten minutes. It worked quite faster in the past before we installed the hyphenation for different languages; which we had to do due the issue that word got stuck during the generation process.

Did anybody face the same issue?

Is there a limit how many users can work in parallel because we face the mentioned performance issues?

Is it possible to migrate the synchronous server to another server? If yes how does this work?

Thank you in advance.

Gernot

Hello

you mix up to many questions. Thereforeit is not easy to provide simepl feedback.

This is my assumption: if you use "Report from template" normally the local WWI is used. But if you have activated a "business function" then you can use a "WWI server farm" for this process. Honetsly: it is not very "probable" that at the same time many users will ues either "Report from template" or use CG54/CG50. In any case: you can "size" the WWI serves (just add more if needed) if you are not satisfied with the performance. We are not using this option. Therefore: no clue.

If we talk abour GLM process. Different story. But this is not clear based on question

Hi Christoph,

thank you for your answer. Do you know in which Business function this is included?

Best regards,

Gernot

Dear Gernot

because fo recent issues in our system a kind of "warning", There is not "control" for synchron WWI server possible,

We have seen that on on "windows box" the process hangs and tehn after short time any othere process stopped etc. Here you will not "see" if one spevisl server is "up and running". This is a big difference in comparison to "asynchron WWI". Here you can see if or if not a specific WWI server is up and running.

So higher attentionon support side is needed

Hello Gernot,

This functionality is only available with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP 3 - and if the Business Function OPS_EHS_CI_1 (Transaction SFW5) is activated!

Performance might be a a bit slower because with the Sync. WWI Server the template(s) need to be send to the WWI Server and from there the generated PDF to your local PC (2x sending over network).

While before the template(s) have been only send to your PC (1x sending over network).

But if the WWI Server is quite faster then you local PC and you have a super fast network from SAP to WWI Srv. and an OK network from WWI to you local PC the synchronous WWI Server might show you documents faster....

As Christoph mentioned: You can have mutiple Sync WWI Servers - even mutiple Sync WWI Servers per PC / Virtual Machine are possible.

Two of my clients are using it with no issues so far.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark,

thank you. I tried in our test enviroment and it seems to work.

Some further testing is required before I will do this in our productive environment.

Best regards,

Gernot

Hi Gernot,

Thanks for the feedback!
Was it much slower then the local fronted generation via WWI?
Did you set it up to display PDF or word file?

For sure you should spend some time testing it thoroughly. I assume your most critical business process in EHS is the label printing. Therefore it might be a good idea to keep the the "Synchronous WWI Server for SDS display" separate from the "Synchronous WWI GLM Server for label printing" - just to be one the safe side....

If all your questions have been answered, please close the thread and mark it as answered.

Kind Regards

Mark
