Does SAP ByD supports the initial transactional data migration of the Existing Lease contracts ?

Hello Experts,

Please I need to confirm if there is any possible workaround to migrate the transactional balances associated to existing Lease Contracts at the migration date (ROU Asset/Liabilities + Cumulated depreciation).

Business scenario:

The customer has ongoing Lease Contracts at the time of the SAP ByD GO LIVE , I have already migrated the GL Account balances (Trial Balance, including ROU assets, liabilities, cumulated depreciation) this entry has generated an impact on the 99004000 - Initial Data Carry Forward Fixed Asset Account.

I was expecting to clear out this balance by migrating the Lease contracts, however I realized the Lease contract migration does not affect the 99004000 - Initial Data Carry Forward Fixed Asset Account and does not include the cumulated depreciations.

I have also try by creating the existing lease contracts manually but I got the same accounting results.

So I conclude that the historical data migration of pre-existing lease contracts (prior to Go Live) is not supported by SAP. So the customer is forced to manage 2 process: 1) Manually (via JEV) for the pre- existing Lease contracts 2) Through the Lease contract management module for new contracts started after the Go Live. Do I am right? Is there any workaround that will let me use all the automated functions included in the Lease contract management module for existing lease contracts?

What is the process recommended by SAP?

I would really appreciate if you can provide your feedback.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andres

Dear Andres,

yes, you are right. So far we do not support a migration of lease contracts within the standard migration process.

As a workaround you can choose the retrospective transition type to calculate the values on the migration date based on historical information. Due to different approaches in the calculation, the calculated values in ByD may not fit exactly the values in the legacy system. The system will post the values valid on the migration date. Please keep in mind that in our current design the right-of-use asset opening balance is posted as one amount for the remaining book value. The opening balance is not separated in historical acquisition cost and accumulated depreciation, see my comment on 21.02.2022 in my blog post.

You need to define a transition date for the lease contracts as the migration date. For further information how to do this please read our help document Companies Quick Guide.

If you choose this approach, you need to exclude the corresponding g/l account balances from the migration or create a manual journal entry voucher to reverse the balances. In addition, the corresponding fixed assets of these lease contracts need to be excluded as well from the migration.

The other option is to create manual postings for such lease contracts until they are finished.

Best regards,

Sissi
