need explanation about Local/Home/LocalHome

I am a bit confused about all those Interface which are generated for JavaBeans... Home, Local, LocalHome....

What exactly is the difference, when do I use a specific interface?

I have done all those tutorials which I find at this website, and - as a good boy - I copied the use of the Home or Local interface, so the examples are working properly. But there's no explanation why at one time the Local interface is used and at another the Home or even LocalHome interface. They just use them...

Now I am starting to make my own beans I really need some background info.

Don't trouble... I already found an article with a good description of those interfaces.

Only remaining question is: in a distributed environment you might not know beforehand if a referenced bean is running locally or on a remote site. How to handle such a situation?

You cannot use the Local and the Remote Interface simultaneously, can you?
