ATP Check covering multiple article codes

I have a the following scenario and wanted to ask advice on how to solve my issue.....

the customer wants to purchase a product on an article code which has no stock availability (Article code A). I find an alternative material which is of a slightly larger size on article code B.

What I would like to do is select article code A so that I can show consumption against the size of material the customer wanted to purchase for MRP purposes while supplying the larger product on article code B.

Every time i try to do this I have issues releasing the delivery note due to ATP restrictions. Any help or advice would be gladly received.
