Hi Expert,
Just wanted to confirm, if its safe to delete archived files from FS?
Here's the scenario, we have an archiving session which has a write job that got terminated midway and caused some of the archived files to be written in FS. Even though it got terminated, we still proceed to perform the delete/store process manually. Delete/store completed successfully.
However, there's one archived file that wasn't deleted and retained in FS. This is the file that the write job is currently writing when the termination occurs. We have multiple wirte jobs failure so we have multiple archived files like these in FS.
So just wanted to confirm if these files are safe to manually delete from FS?
Just to mention also that, whenever we encounter write job failure, we execute another write job with same selection criteria (or adjust to smaller selection to avoid failure) to capture what's left .
Thank you so much!
Hello,
Does the file appear in SARA > Management? If not, it means it has no archive administration data and therefore it was not considered for the delete and store jobs. In this case, the content of the file was not deleted from the DB and therefore it may be removed.
If it does appear in SARA, you need to make sure that the content of this file was not deleted from the DB with this archive session. If some records were deleted within this archive session, removing the file would cause data loss.
Best regards,
Mate

Yes, I don't see the files in SARA, just present in the filesystem.
On your second point though, if the archived file is present in FS that would mean that data is not yet deleted from the DB, right? It will be removed from file storage once the delete and store (in archive server) jobs have been executed. So basically, we can proceed to remove files from the FS and will not cause data loss as these are generated by write job only and not yet deleted from the DB.
Let me know if my understanding is correct.
Again thanks so much for your expertise 🙂
