Migrating Business partners

Hi all,

I'm new to the data migration cockpit, and currently I'm working on a carve out project. The source is an S/4HANA 1909 system and the target a new installation of an S/4HANA 2020 system. I have some questions on which way to perform data migration for migration objects that are only available for a Direct transfer migration approach.

E.g. Business partner, Direct transfer is not supported for S/4HANA source systems, so what should I do in this case ( and similar migration objects with only direct transfer migration approach) ?

Hi Bart,

You are right in direct transfer approach SAP will support only for ECC as the source system. In your case I suggest to go with File/Staging approach.

Use the above objects for creation and extension.

If your source system is S/4HANA 1909, and your target is S/4HANA 2020.

Are you using "System conversion" approach here? meaning you will have an upgrade from S/4HANA 1909 to S/4HANA 2020?

Hi Vincent,

no it is not a system conversion, in fact it is a carve out of a company from a global S/4HANA 1909 system.

The carved out company will use its own S/4HANA system which will be an S/4HANA 2020 system. And thus migration of their data has to be done from an S4 1909 to an S4 2020 causing me troubles for the moment.

thanks for your reply. I used the same link but with version 2020 latest, because that is my target system.

It is correct that business partner is available but only in the "Direct transfer" migration approach, and that is exactly my problem, because SAP states in this link https://help.sap.com/viewer/29193bf0ebdd4583930b2176cb993268/2020.latest/en-US/7a62b59726ce42e7a1077... that : "SAP S/4HANA systems are currently not supported as source systems.".

Unfortunately for me, my source system is an S/4HANA system, so the available data migration object for business partners cannot be used, hence my question how I should proceed ?

Do I have to build from scratch a data migration object ?

Can I copy the existing one, change the BAPI / Function behind (and the data mapping) to migrate the business partners ?

Is there another migration approach for migrating from S4 to S4 ?

I don't know, as I wrote, I'm new to DMC. In the past we would have solved this with LSMW, but I've been told that LSMW has become obsolete when transferring to S/4 HANA. So I don't know how to solve this issue ( and it is not the only direct transfer migration object, almost all transactional data related migration objects are "direct transfer".)
