Migration Cockpit - 'Validate Data' is running in the background for a long time

Hello Experts,

In the migration cockpit in the starter system, after I upload template, activate and start transfer, it doesn't progress and there is a warning message: "Step 'Validate Data' is running in the background"

Even if I deactivate the template file and delete the file, it continues to say "Step 'Validate Data' is running in the background" and it is not possible to migrate data.

How can we solve the problem?

Hi Preeti,

Can you please check if you have maintained the stepuser and grant neccessary authorization to the stepuser? You may refer to KBA 3094534 - Migration job is stuck when there are still free jobs available.

Hello Marissa,

Step user is already maintained and authorization for step user is maintained. I tried all possible ways to delete the file but its not getting deleted or processing further.

I had the same issue and it was solved by accessing SM36 and SM37 Tcodes.

I am also experiencing this issue at my customer. None of the suggestions mentioned above or in the Notes (3166765, 3094534) offer a solution.

I am assuming the people here are not waiting still, would love to hear what you did to move along.

That note was not applicable for my system, but... i dicovered that the validation process that got stuck, could be nudged by uploading a second, identical file (with another name). The first file suddenly got validated and loaded into the staging tables and the second file was validated, but not loaded into the staging tables as the entries already existed (from the first file, so that is fine).

Hopefully this helps anyone who comes across this issue.

I am in Ecuador and we have the S/4 HANA 2021 version and I have more than 13 hours with a file that is being validated but cannot finish. Did you manage to find the solution to your problem?

I still also have the issue. Seems to be different users on different systems in different contintens having this issue. Hopefully there is a solution for it soon. Above suggested ideas don't help since not such issue. It also doesn't always happen - just sometimes.

Hi Vanessa,

If you can find jobs in the table, this means the jobs are stuck. I recommend you check if the step usre is correctly maintained first. If yes, you may try to execute report /LTB/JOB_DISPATCHER to push the jobs.

you are on SAP S/4HANA onPrem 2021, right?

Please make sure you use the SAP Fiori App "Migrate Your Data". The old transaction LTMC to use the migration cockpit is deprecated as of SAP S/4HANA 2021.

Thanks Sybille , yes correct i am on SAP S/4 HANA on Prem 2021 and using SAP Fiori App "Data Migration". I have already gone though slide but could not find any way to check background jobs or how to delete unprocessed files. Its not allowing to delete , when i try to delete file .. it gives warring 'Validate Data' is running in the background'.

If you can´t resolve, please open an SAP incident in component CA-LT-MC.

You mentioned this is a starter system. Could you please confirm if your system is S/4HANA Cloud Essential edition? If so, when did you start transfer?
