question on DMS & document links for material/BOM/other objects

Hi everyone,

we have this requirement for a client regarding technical documentation like CAD/CAM files and other engg docs: "neutral files (e.g. STEP, PDF, TIFF, etc)=> the file stays in PLM, a link is only sent to S/4".

Experts, please suggest the best approach here. we are in total confusion here and any assistance would be appreciated.

Reg DMS, i am listing my understanding, please update me if correct/not ?

1) this can manage docs and master records called as DIR [doc info records]

2) it doesnt have any repository of its own, can use SAP content server or other like Open text at backend

3) in S4, we can link these DIR to objects like material/BOM etc

4) this DIR linking only in ERP like S4/ECC, not for MDG

[we have PDM/PLM like Vault/keytech/Autodesk/etc.. ]

means, in this scenario, for DMS, can me make these PDM/PLM as repository and no need to replicate any docs again in DMS, and next in S4 the DIR's could be linked to objects like material/BOM etc.. ??

also can anyone provide links to options or scenarios possible with DMS?

unable to find out what is the possibilities or not with DMS.

without DMS, can we not link the doc links to S4 objects?
