Is "Edit Online" option of Solution Documentation available in Microsoft Edge Browser?

Hello Experts,

Do we have option of Edit Online (NOT Edit onlie SAP GUI) for Documents in Edge browser?

If I understand correctly, The office integration functionality is based on Microsoft ActiveX technology and can only be used in the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)(Microsoft Edge browser and other browsers are not supported).

As IE is no longer supported, does it mean "Edit Online" option is obsolete and now only Edit Online(SAP GUI) is possible?

Best Regards

Gurjeet

Q: "My doubt was whether the same old Edit Online option(where one new tab opens) can be used in Edge?"

A: Yes, I did notice that too. After adjusting your default browser setting in the SAP Gui settings.....

.... starting e.g. transaction soldoc will result in a "tabless browser session".

Whereas in the old MS IE session you could have multiple soldoc sessions in multiple tabs.

I have tried copy-pasting the URL from this WebView2 Runtime session into an Edge-session, but this doesn't work for me due to SSO.

Hi Dino,

I really appreciate your inputs.

As you already mentioned Edge browser opens in Tabless form via SAP Gui. Hence, Its not possible to use IE mode on the same. But when we copy the link on Edge browser, "Edit Online" does work with IE mode.

It was all about a Customer who preferred to use the same old "Edit Online" mode with Edge, as Edge can be used as a default browser.

As kornelia.schierwath and you mentioned that the Edit Gui Online is the way forward, I will close the discussion here.

Thanks 🙂

Have a great day!

Thanks for your inputs:)

Edit Online(SAP GUI) is clear to me. I was having doubt on Edit Online (Old option with IE).

As we can use Edge as a default browser for SAP GUI and there is a option of enabling IE mode on Microsoft Edge Chromium. My doubt was whether the same old Edit Online option(where one new tab opens) can be used in Edge?

But seems, that doesn't work.

Hello Gurjeet,

yes, "Edit Online (SAP Gui)" is the tool you can use to edit documents online - I use it myself to change documents in Edge.

If you implement the SP, every user can define himself if he wants to use it or not.

Hi Colleagues,

we use SolDoc heavily (currently 3k document WIP), so edit online is very often used. In edge is working somehow, but very unfriendly for user:

  1. first you click on Edit Online (SAP GUI)
  2. system open Downloads, where you need to click Open
  3. system open
  • empty new window,
  • 2nd window Edit online via GUI office integration
  • SAP logon
  • and finally with some delay document itself

Is there any setup just to open document for edit directly without out other disturbing windows?

Second question: is possible to open Office document (Word, Excell) directly without need to go to Downloads and select open. Like example picture (JPG) is opened directly... I try with all combinations of Download setting, include Open Office files in the browser, but it is not working.

Many thanks in advance

Miran

Thanks Kornelia,

you are reffering to Edit Online(SAP GUI) option.

So can I summarize it like "Edit Online" option was only available for IE, as IE is the only browser supporting Active X / ACF Control.

Hence, for other Browsers(Edge,Chrome etc) we have only one option of editing documents online i.e. "Edit Online (SAP GUI)".

Am I correct?
