Why choose SAP BTP?

Hi all,

We're a small/medium electric utility company running ECC 6.0 and will eventually migrate to S/4. We don't really know when we're going to migrate, we just know we will do that sometime in the future.

We need to develop a couple of cloud web applications that will help us manage work for external contractors and interact with electricians and developers.

I basically just need to create/display service entry sheets and PM / Service Orders

My question is - Has anyone found real value in using BTP? Why should I pick BTP over hosting my web application in Azure and using OData services to interact with my ECC 6.0 environment?

Once we move to S/4 is there any real value in having the application in BTP?

I'm trying to convince myself to use BTP, but I just don't see the value. What am I missing?

Thanks!

One suggestion is to watch this SAP TechEd video with Farys, a Belgian water utility - start at around minute 14-15 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozdQ4a64sBE

Thanks Tammy ! I honestly hadn't thought seriously about BTP until I saw some TechED sessions.

It all looked great and we're quite interested in moving forward with this technology, but I just keep thinking .... do I really need it?

For example, when I watched that session during TechEd all I could keep thinking was "I can do very similar things with an Azure Data Lake and just do analytics with MS Power BI on top of it"

It's great to have options! However, when you're trying to justify a project to multiple technical teams, the overlap of functionality between different technologies can act against you!

To be quite honest, I want to be wrong! I want to confidently say that building applications in BTP will offer us great advantages after we move to S4, but I haven't found a good way to justify this.

Thanks!
