none of the ESS page open in portal

Hello,

I have done configuartion for ess on portal and ecc side. But when I click on ESS tab in portal there are two problems. First problem is portal login screen appears and I have to enter userid and password again. Other problem is when I enter userid and password overview and other area pages open but pages for different applications under each area does not open. for example when I click on personal information tab it shows initial page but when I click on address link, page does not open. An error message "javascript:void(0)" appears in the bottom.

I guess this problem is related to navigation.

Please provide solution for this.

I FIXED THE ERROR! (dancing in the office)

After several several days with try-and-error I got the solution:

The hostname given in the url of your browser and the hostname given in the property "Web AS host name" for the system "SAP_WebDynpro_XSS" must exactly be the same!

For example I was accessing the page in the browser with:

"http://localhost:50000/irj/portal", but defined:

( go to http://localhost:50000/irj/portal --> system administration --> system configuration --> "Portal-Content" --> <your ESS system folder> --> "SAP_WebDynpro_XSS")

It has property

"Web AS host name" = "chrisSAP:50000"

The name of my computer is "chrisSAP". I got exacly the error as decribed: none of the links worked and you have to sign-in a second time.

After changing the property to "Web AS host name = localhost:50000", it suddenly worked!

But then it stopped working when logging in with "http://chrisSAP:50000/irj/portal".

So i changed back as before ("Web AS host name" = "chrisSAP:50000") and it worked, but stopped working when logging in with "http://localhost:50000/irj/portal". I also tried with IP-address. Same effect.

So it only works if both names are exactly the same.

You need to check the Standard Jco connection values maintained in Webdynapro console for ESS applications. There are some standard Jco connections which comes with the ESS business package

If this is a new implementation, you need to configure it.

If this is an existing one, then some changes has happened, you need to fix it

Dear Abdullah,

What do you mean with "verify standard JCO connection values"?

Under maintain Jco destinations, I can see:

SAP_R3_HumanResources

SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData

SAP_R3_Financials

SAP_R3_Financials_MetaData

SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics

SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData

SAP_R3_Travel

SAP_R3_TravelMetaData

I ran the tests for them and all went fine (green light).

So what values exactly should I verify there? Timeouts? Role rights of the user given there? Or what else?

Hi Sameer,

I have exactly the same problem as what you have described.

Did you find any solution yet?

It would even be helpful what you tried an did not work out, so no need to repeat the unnecessary steps.

I guess the non-working links have to do with roles that you still need to assign to your user on the Abap backend sytem.

And the double-login with the Single-Sign-on between the WebApplicationServer on the backend (that runs ITS, I do not mean the WebApplicationServer in your frontend portal) and the Abap backend sytem.

What I am currently trying to solve the double-login:

I tested the Webgui:

(Execute transaction "SICF". Enter Hierarchy Type = SERVICE , then click on checkmark "execute (F8)". Now browse to default-host --> sap --> bc --> gui -->sap --> its --> webgui. Right-click

on it and choose "Test Service".)

On the opened page, I detected the warning "SSO logon not possible; logon tickets not activated on the server" and a login screen appeared. But it should not. I just guess if I solve this problem, the other is also solved. Please note that I have successfully established Single-sign-on as described in the SAP ESS Manual between the portal frontend and the abap backend. But it seem that SSO must also be established between the ITS on the backend and the abap instance on the backend.

Currently I am trying to export the certificate with Visual Administrator running on the backend, but when trying to run Visual Administrator and clicking on "default" (this is how I ran it successfully on the frontend), I get error message "unable to lookup connection Default: http://PSSV107:8103/msgserver/text/logon returned empty list of connection parameters".

Hmm... an new problem to solve first ...

This forum thread is still "unanswered", so I guess you are still working on the problem to solve it.

Please let's help each other and solve the problem together.

What have you tried so far?

Hi Gurus,

I am also facing the same issue. the menu bar links are woring fine however the links in each section like travel expenses are not working. its giving me javascript:void(0); when we click on link to navigate to that page..

Points rewarded if response is helpfull

Thanks and Regards

An update to the above, this issue was due to authorization for the userid. We gave sufficient authorizations and it started working fine.

auth roles used:

SAP_FI_TV_TRAVELER

SAP_FI_TV_TRAVEL_ASSISTANT

SAP_FI_TV_ADMINISTRATOR

SAP_FI_TV_MANAGER_GENERIC

SAP_FI_TV_ADVANCE_PAYER

SAP_FI_TV_TRAVEL_MANAGER

Hi Sameer,

Just to confirm, you are able to view the initial page for each area in ESS? only when you click on the quick links you have a problem?

Make sure your authorizations are fine in the backend.

Raj

Hi Ranjendren,

Here is a twist. I tried the same on the other computer and all the pages of ESS services are opening. Now I guess this is a browser problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sameer

Hi Sameer,

What browser are you using? If all else fails, you probably need to compare the settings in each browser. Also, check the version difference.

Hi,

We have the same problem, none of the WebDynpro application for ESS seems to be called . The install seems OK. How can we trouble shoot the problems, if you have any documentation.

You can send via E-mail: Christophe_Schutz@Waters.com

Thank you .
