Enable Now Competitor Assima

Hello. My client has SEN and another team is looking outside at elearning authoring tools, one is Assima. Has anyone used this or familiar with it? I've researched it a little and one of its big selling points is you don't have to wait for an environment to be ready for recording. You can somehow record or create a simulation at any time and it reduces the need for an SAP training environment. Any experience or thoughts on this tool?

Hi Sally,

Sorry no experience of Assima but I find it difficult to believe that you can create system Simulations without a system. At the very least, you will need to manually take screenshots of the system and manually add hotspots to show how to use the system. The idea of recording is that it significantly reduces all that manual effort.

Shane

Thank you for these details. We have another person on our team that came from one of the bigger companies and she said the same thing. They moved everything over to Enable Now.

I have a customer who had a team of authors using Assima STT, which (to me) looks very much like Oracle User Productivity Kit in both authoring and in output. The tool is from South Africa, I heard, but somehow I think there was cross-pollination in the programming because the similarities to UPK don't seem to be coincidental. At that customer, I think that authoring group decided to migrate to the new Cloud version of the Assima tool, instead of going to SEN, mainly (it seemed to me) because they were older authors, set in their ways, and they did not want to have to migrate their published content to another tool. But they were the outliers - the rest of the authoring groups at that large customer are going with SEN.

By now you probably know that in SEN, you can start recording out-of-the-box and get usable content. You still need to do configuration of your custom styles, settings, and SEN Manager server workarea, but you COULD start recording with a blank-slate Producer using factory Resources and settings without any configuration. As long as your screenshot size is the size you want, you can change almost everything about the recording later.

Yeah, I just read about it and haven't seen it. And maybe I didn't explain clearly. The tool still needs an environment but it doesn't require all the configuration to be completed before you can start creating the simulation. Not sure how this would work. I meet with the team shopping this product in 20 mins so I'll know more after that.
