How to update Description of fields in HANA Migration Template file

When we create any Project for Data Migration through HANA Migration Cockpit, then we can download the template from the Object. In the Excel file downloaded, we have a description for the standard fields. How can we add a similar description for custom fields through which users can understand which field is this and possible values? Also, can we maintain the translation of it?

Below I have also attached the example for the same.

I guess you are talking about die SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit. Unfortunately I cannot see an attachment to your question.

All relevant information on Custom field support by the Migration Cockpit is available via the Data Migration Landing Page on SAP Help Portal: https://help.sap.com/s4_ce_dm

You then navigate to Object-Related Information and on the right site, there is the link to Support of Custom Fields (for customers and partners only).

The first sentence answers a port of your question:

"In the extensibility framework, certain migration objects are available to add custom fields by using the Custom Fields and Logic application. If the SAP S/4HANA migration cockpit detects such custom fields in one of the target function modules or (CDS) behavior definitions for a migration object, it will add them automatically to the source structure of the migration object. This enables data to be entered for these fields in Microsoft Excel files or staging tables."

That means that the process is done automatically and you cannot make any changes here via the cockpit or another tool. On that help Portal page you will also see the list of data migration objects where the used API currently supports custom fields. Also in the available Migration Objects documentation via https://help.sap.com/s4_ce_mo you will see the support for custom fields within the data migration object's documentation.

You may also try to add the description into the XML file via a text editor. But that's on your own risk and you may get error messages during upload when you use such a manipulated XML. Manipulating the XML directly is nothing we recommend and there is also no support on such manipulated XML files in case of errors during upload.

As we don't recommend to manipulate the XML and to use always the latest template. You may copy the XML that includes the custom fields to an XLSX or XLS format and add your descriptions to the XLS/XLSX and send both to your people. One to read the description (XLS) and the other (XML) to fill it out.

I guess this would be the easiest way.
