Performance consideration when using MAP MERGE on series data

Hello,

I just get noticed of the MAP MERGE functionality in SAP HANA. I would like to use that feature for a big table variable and perform some rescaling or mapping of the contained data.

Can you share some thought if that would be an option from performance point of view? If not what would be the better solution? To apply a scalar function in a select statement? In which cases should I consider using MAP MERGE?
