GRC System upgrade possibility for NW to S/4 HANA Foundation (V1200 to V8100)

Hi All,

We have SAP GRC Access Control GRCFND_A V1200 SP03 installed on SAP NW 7.52 SP03. Due to some license issue, we are thinking to upgrade to SAP GRCFND_A V8100 SP12 instead of V1200. We also checked with SAP that, GRCFND_A V8100 is supported for NW also (as it is for S/4 HANA). Now, if we want to upgrade directly to V8100 SP12 from SAINT by generating stack.xml file from maintenance planner; will it overwrite the existing functionality of V1200 or, we first need to uninstall the component of V1200 and then install V8100 and upgrade to required SP12. And also, if we install V8100 in the system, do we need to configure GRC related functionality from scratch or the configuration will not be changed.

Secondly, as we have seen in Maintenance planner, we can upgrade the system to SAP S/4 HANA Foundation 2020, with GRCFND_A V8100 SP12. But, our system is on Sybase DB along with NW 7.52 SP03. So, for upgrade to SAP S/4 HANA Foundation 2020 what should be our approach ? Will it support Sybase, as S/4 Hana foundation can only support HANA as DB as far as we know. So, if we want to upgrade do we need to use DMO to migrate the DB from Sybase to Hana and also upgrading NW 7.52 to S/4 HANA Foundation 2020 in a single step ? And if we upgrade the system to S/4 HANA foundation 2020 do we need to configure GRC from scratch, or will it work as it is working as of now and suffice our criteria ? (As we are thinking of to migrate the whole landscape to S/4 HANA)

Please find the maintenance planner stack file summary as referred here

.

Thanks

Hello @arnab21, Do you have any update on this? I am on HANA box and planning to convert from NW to S/4 Foundation.

Hi abhatt_9

I saw a smaller gap upgrade and we did NOT need to config from scratch

Although v1200 to v1800 is a big gap I think you WON'T need to config from scratch (otherwise what would be the difference between upg and new inst?)

Good luck and if you can update this topic with confirmation or further updates!

cheers!A

Hi abhatt_9

you should have added bulletpoints for all the questions 🙂

will it overwrite the existing functionality of V1200 -> i dont think so

we first need to uninstall the component of V1200 -> if in maintenance planner you don't see a flag of deletion, which is likely, you won't need to uninstall

And also, if we install V8100 in the system, do we need to configure GRC related functionality from scratch or the configuration will not be changed.-> a bit of both, the upgrade process suppose to keep the functionalities as these were before upgrade unless sap decided to scrap those in the final release

for the rest i may try to answer tomoro..

cheers!A

Hi amo ntella,

Thanks for your reply !

I would like to know if we need to configure all GRC functionalities from scratch after this V1200 to V8100, or it would be there as it is. If nothing much has changed, we can go for direct upgrade in Development system then.

Thanks
