ESS, mySAPERP 2005, Portal, Installation, Architecture

Hello, I have a question about ESS, mySAPERP 2005 and Portal. We installed on one server a mySAP ERP 2005 (only AS-ABAP) and on a second server a Portal (with AS-JAVA, XSS, EP...). Some guys told me, that I have further to install a Java-Addin on th mySAPERP 2005 Server for the ESS-Deployment. Is that true? In my opinon the whole deployment could be done in the Portal.

Regards,

Alexander Türk

You should be right. I had to install the Java Add In for XI, but afaik ESS should be sufficient with the EP on a separate machine.

I am not sure about SAPs claim, that the Portal with ESS is integrated into ERP2005. Maybe there is an additional scenario, where everything is run from within ERP2005 (like the new SRM), In this case, you will need a Java instance as well.

We are just in the planning phase for ERP2005 and will start in 4 weeks with the install, so this is just paper knowledge....

Hello Kaushal,

"unfortunaly" our landscape will be very big. It ist planned that 25000 concurrent users will work with ESS over portal. In that case, as I understood you right, you would advice to install a erp2005 with an Java Add In and deploy there the ESS and to install on a seperate server a Portal without ESS. Right?

Hi Alexander

Basically the JAVA Add in installation is used for XI.

not sure but support only unicode installation.

if u have enough resources than u can plan for new J2EE server for ESS. (Separate Java installation)

but u also use ESS deploy on portal server with higher hardware resource.(memory RAM) and fine tune the server

so performance is best.

this all about company policy. so u decide what ever u want to use.
