S/4/HANA - Sales and Operations Planning (SOP)

Dear all

Could anyone please explain to me, why SOP will be falling away in S/4 HANA (CompScope 458), while CO planning incl. transferring to SOP will still be supported? It technically uses the same table (namely S076). Is there any specific reason (well, perhaps other than SAP trying to sell IBP)?

Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan

SOP is still available under the latest S/4HANA releases, but it is considered as a non-strategic functionality (it is part of the S/4HANA compatibility scope). SOP is a very old functionality and the successor of SOP is IBP, which allows an integrated planning of multiple systems.

Hi Caetano

Thank you for your response. I was kinda hoping to get your attention 😉 because I always value your input.

As far as I know, CompScope items come with 'limited usage rights'. So, while SOP is currently still available, we will not be able to use it beyond 2025. Is this correct?

I completely understand that SOP is (very) old functionality. The part I actually cannot understand: CO planning/budgeting with its functionality to transfer to SOP uses exactly the same functionality. This will still be supported, but SOP not.

Jan

Hello Jan

I would love to help here but I really can't say for sure why SOP is part of the compatibility scope and the CO Planning/Budgeting is not.

Caetano

Sales & Operations Planning (SOP) is a flexible forecasting and planning tool with which sales, production, and other supply chain targets can be set on the basis of historical, existing, and estimated future data.

That's all well and good, but how does this answer my question?
