Client Strategy

Hi,

We are being advised on a greenfield implementation to use the same client for development and unit testing. We will have a separate golden client where no users can log onto.

This seems slightly at odds with SAPs recommendations in the following doc: SAP S/4HANA Client Strategy

The advice given is this doc is slightly outdated and doesn't reflect the changes made with SAP Activate and focus build.

Would appreciate if anyone is aware of a more up to date document or have a view on the client setup for an S/4 Hana greenfield implementation?

Thanks

kstledger Hi Kelsey, Do you have any input here that you are able to provide Jim on his question around same "client" for Dev and Unit Testing and the separate Golden Client that users cannot log into. FYI - this is for a Greenfield Implementation. Thanks for your support, rbyrne

Thanks rbyrne for looping me in on this question. This question should be directed under the Technical Architecture & Infrastructure workstream lead (adnette.kamugisha) since the tenant topic falls under this topic. However, I think the owners of this document daniel.boehm, raquel.martinez, van.vi may be able to assist with an updated document or additional support.

Dear Jim,

Although the document that you refer: SAP S/4HANA Client Strategy was created some years ago, it is still valid. As you have noticed in all the alternatives the client created for unit testing is combined neither with configuration nor with development.

In summary, you should try to follow one of the options described based on your business needs. For example, in DEV a good approach could be:

- Client 000 - system administration

- Client 100 - Development/customizing

- Client 110 - Best practices (Of course only if you decide to activate best practices)

- Client 120 - Unit testing

I hope this information helps.

Regards,

Jose M.
