Hana database mechanism

We are now using SAP S\4 HANA. I would like to know, when users make changes on SAP, for example, when someone modified material data by using code MM02, the operations related to hana database is deleting first and then inserting, or just updating it directly?

It is "Update", not "Delete & Insert".
