Small Software Consultancy firm wants to implement SAP

Can you please help me answer the SAP Modules that can be implement in a "small software servicing firm" ?

We are into "application maintenance projects" and " small implementation for local clients".

We also provide resources to various tech giants like HCL, Wipro etc.

Now we want to implement SAP for logging our client calls, sales contracts, periodic billing and milestone billing etc.

Also, if I can implement FI module and include all office assets etc.

And should we consider resources as materials in MM module.

Hi 08011982

I would recommend to look at S/4HANA Cloud for Professional Services. The below blog might be a very good starting point for various resources.

Hello 08011982

That's a very good question. I've heard about using materials in MM as resources and about selling them this way. However I don't think that's the right approach. I deem that as a mere workaround.

I'd suggest the following:

- FI, FI-AA - for general accounting and asset management.

- MM-PUR - for all your purchases e.g. back office stuff like office supplies as well as external resources that you might need for your projects.

- MM-IM if you need to manage stocks. Most probably you don't, but I mention that just in case.

- PS - if you are serious about project management in SAP ECC or S/4HANA. The possibilities here are endless. You can set up SAP PS to resemble MS Project and plan your projects similarly. PS gives you work break down structures as well as order networks. Order network is to plan project tasks and assign them to resources. It works pretty much like regular PP order - it's executed by a work center, it consumes capacity, it's scheduled and confirmed. Consequently you model your resources as capacities of work centers. On top of that you can build multiple work center hierarchies to see your capacities and their loads in a summarized form e.g. by teams or by capabilities.

- CATT - that's to easy record time sheets. CATT is then integrated with PS and posts confirmation against order network.

- mini HR - that's nice to link your capacities to flesh and blood people. Also it's a prerequisite for CATT.

- SD integrated with PS so you can invoice by milestones or on hourly basis.
