Mobile Development Kit and SAP Mobile Platform SDK

Do I need the SAP Mobile Platform SDK to build an application with Mobile Development Kit (MDK) in Mobile Services?

I want to develop an application with MDK and need the understanding. T

he SAP Mobile Platform SDK includes the Offline OData Plugin right?

Now when I write an MDK based application, does it integrate with the SAP Mobile Platform SDK? Or does the whole thing work differently?
